BETTY WILSON CELEBRATION DAY
1 Dec 21
Kooyong

Our intrepid Wandering XI starts its 2016-17 campaign on Sunday at the home of the Kingston Hawthorn Hawks: the Walter Galt Oval in Parkdale.

Our squad is as follows: Semertzidis (captain), Anderson, Clinnick, Corney, Stockdale, Piesse, Taylor, Browning, M Delaney, V Delaney, Reece Williams, Kish, Nadj, and K. Penaluna. (please let me know if you have indicated you are available and if I have inadvertantly left you off the list… it’s pressure-packed this co-ordination gig…)

Big names returning are reigning  Christopher Box Grainger Player of the Year, the exciting Geelong-based allrounder Mark Browning and former Collingwood Grand Final winger Graeme Anderson, better known for being Port Melbourne CC’s all time highest run-maker. It could be one or two of us play for the Lords Taverner lads if they happen to be short….

One shock withdrawal is boom batsman Phil O’Meara who must be at Caulfield for Victorian Subbie duties.

Our opponents on Sunday are the Taverners… normally we play them in January but by popular demand have made it our season-opener clash… looking to start a tradition like  Richmond v Carlton etc.

Upcoming games in our 10 fixture season will  also be played at Caulfield subbies, Wesley College in Glen Waverley, Queenscliff and come the New Year at  East Malvern.

Please note that all our games  are on Sundays from 11 o’clock, with arrival please as close to 10.30 a.m. as possible. Games are on turf unless otherwise advised. Match fees are $20 per head please to cover the cost of the balls and lunch.

Our 2016-17 Wandering XI fixture list is as follows:

1. Sunday, October 30, v the Lords Taverners, Walter Galt Reserve, Parkdale
2. Sunday, November 13, v the Ringwood Possums, Caulfield (invitational game)
3. Sunday, November 20, v VCA Umpires, Walter Galt Reserve, Parkdale
4. Sunday, December 4, v MCC XXIXers, Wesley College, Glen Waverley
5. Sunday, January 8, The Pakistani Asylum Seekers, D.H. Lucas Oval, Dunlop St East Malvern.
6. Sunday, January 15, The Eccentrics (VENUE TO COME)
7. Sunday January 29, Ballarat Buckwackers, Ballarat Grammar
8. Sunday, February 12, Suma Park Bellerinas, Queenscliff
9. Sunday February 26, v Supreme Court, D.H. Lucas Oval, Dunlop St East Malvern.
10. Sunday, March 3, Power House,  Waverley Oval, cnr Waverley and Malvern Roads East Malvern

Many of you have already indicated a ‘yes’ to many of the fixtures. The January 8 date is a new one, so can you please  get back to us ASAP with your availability. You can do this by going to the teams tab at the top of the website and ticking the games you wish to play.

Matches are again of 40 overs a side with at least eight bowlers being used per match. Batsmen retire at 40 and bowlers can bowl no more than eight overs.

Please note that we do not have any personal player insurance in place at the moment for these games.

Roll on the summer and please get back to us if you are available for the January 8 match with the Pakistani Asylum Seekers.— KEN PIESSE AND PAUL SEMERTZIDIS
