Keith Carr isn’t an ACS member, yet, but we couldn’t let the occasion of his 1000th cricket match go without some recognition.

He counts many in the Society as his friends, mostly as a result of his association with Eastern Cricket Association (East Suburban Churches being a merging body in 1999/2000). playing with and against the likes of Society life members Ian Stuart, Fred Hall, Ian Hammet and Steve Mason

Earlier this month, Keith had the honor of participating in my 1000th game as a player/umpire in a game at Hays Paddock. The competing clubs were Deepdene Uniting and Trinity Willison.

Keith’s cricketing CV is remarkable right up there with people like John Craig, our own ‘Bradman’ of club cricket.

He played 465 games  and scored 11,712 runs (10 100s) with Barkers Rd Methodists, Blackburn Methodists, Blackburn South/Bennettswood and Manningham.

The December 9 match was his 535th as an umpire, giving him 1000 all up.

Off the field he has held the positions of treasurer, delegate, secretary, promotion officer, tribunal chairman, captain and  coach. His awards are just as numerous. They include a an Australian Sports Medal in 2001 and a 50 year certificate from Cricket Australia in 2005.

Keith well played. You are an icon of the club game. — KP
