Lawyer, Melbourne Cricket Club president and ex-Demon Steve Smith was a most accomplished and adroit guest of honour at our Australian Cricket Society 2016 footy launch at Kooyong this month.
Steve is just one of four 200 game players never to contest a League final. He and Trevor Barker were also among the first Little League players to make the big time in the VFL. He retired at 29 after 204 games and is proud to be a one club player. He played the majority of those games at centre half forward before returning Messiah Ron Barassi turned him into a full back good enough to win his club’s best and fairest. Steve answered all sorts of questions from his football days to the challenges facing the MCC as it maintains its profile as the leading club in Australasia.
Thank you to those attended.
