OUR GUEST OF HONOUR: We are privileged to chat with one of Victoria’s finest sportsmen, the 1970 Brownlow Medallist Peter Bedford, 50 years after he won football’s most coveted individual trophy.

Now in his 70s, Peter is a proud and passionate Port Melbourne boy, who represented the Borough at both cricket and footy.

His allround skills lifted him into the Victorian XI and he played in two Sheffield Shield title winning seasons, 1966-67 (as a 19-year-old) and 1969-70, his best ever year of rep cricket.

A batting allrounder, his highest Sheffield Shield score was 134 not out and best bowling 5-40 … among those Greg Chappell.

Having been a teen star in Port Melbourne’s 1966 VFA premiership, his sublime skills, balance and baulking made him an unstoppable force at South Melbourne where he won the Brownlow and five club best and fairests.

All up with Port, South and Carlton, he played more than 250 games, kicked 400+ goals and is a member of both the Port Melbourne and South Melbourne/Sydney Swans’ Teams of the Century.

Celebrating 50 years since he won the Brownlow, it’s our privilege to have ‘Wheels’ with us.. do come and enjoy the nostalgia.

He remains close to the game as a mentor to dozens with the Crusaders and at the Malvern CC.
