The Australian Cricket Society is hosting its Annual Boxing Day Dinner on Thursday, 28th December 2023 – following the Third day’s play of the Australia v Pakistan Test being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Our special guest is Australian Test Selector, Tony Dodemaide.
Tony Dodemaide had an interesting career, which certainly had its moments. He took a five-for on ODI debut, against Sri Lanka in Perth in 1987-88, and he made 50 (batting at No. 9) and took 6 for 58 on his Test debut, against New Zealand in Melbourne the same winter. But those were the only instances of him taking five wickets or reaching 50 in his 10 Tests and 24 ODIs. Uniquely, he played his first four Tests against four different countries: New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. He also had three seasons at Sussex, before becoming the MCC’s Head of Cricket at Lord’s. In April 2004 he returned to Australia as CEO of Western Australia and three years later he headed home to Melbourne to become the chief executive of Cricket Victoria.
Tony was the Selector-On-Tour in England during the 2023 Ashes Series was with the Australian team in India during the recent World Cup Championship series, so his recollections will be most interesting.
The cost of the evening is $125 for members and partners, $135 for non-members. This will cover a 2-course dinner, pre-dinner drinks (from 7 to 7.30pm), tea/coffee and entry into the raffle. Drinks will be available for purchase from the bar.
