The 50th anniversary edition of the Australian Cricket Society’s award-winning annual Pavilion is available soon, with Shane Warne on the cover, recognising his latest honor as Victoria’s Cricketer of the Century.

The Australian Cricket Society (Melbourne) cares for cricket like few others.

We award three-year scholarships (at $5000e) for 12-year-old boys and girls to attend the Elite Cricket Academy.

We meet, we tour, and we also make a sizeable four figure donation each year to the Ponting Foundation. (Ricky Ponting is our patron)

You will be fascinated by the length and breadth of the feature stories in the 2017-18 edition of Pavilion.

Twelve experts rated the biggest names in Victorian cricket history from 1 to 10, Warnie just shading Warwick Armstrong, Keith Miller and Neil Harvey as the finest of all.

Among our who’s who of selectors were ex-Test captains Bill Lawry, Graham Yallop and Neil Harvey, 88-years-young Colin McDonald plus a range of leading writers such as Rod Nicholson, David Frith, Gideon Haigh and president Ken Piesse.

Not everyone named Warnie as their No.1, Frith for example discounting the spin sultan’s Victorian figures as ‘modest at best’, especially when compared with the record of ‘The Big Ship’ Warwick Armstrong and the charismatic all-sportsman Keith Miller.

The new Pavilion includes 80 pages and hours and hours of reading.

It has been published earlier than normal to help cricket tragics like us leap through these cold winter months and onto spring and summer when surely this embarrassing current Cricket Stand-off between Jolimont and the players will be sorted.

Our great prizes in the 2017-18 edition include a night for two at Crown Towers, plus breakfast and car parking
