Cricket's Lost Prodigy - The Story of Karl Schneider - by Michael Lefebvre
June 13, 2025
12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Our own ACS member Michael Lefebvre has written a book about Cricket's Lost Prodigy, Karl Schneider. We're lucky enough to have him tell us all [...]

edited by Ken Piesse

In the 2025 edition we pay tribute to the greatest women cricketers of the first 90 years in an extended feature which honours so many wonderful players from Peggy Antonio in the ‘30s, Betty Wilson in the ‘50s right through to the fierce fast bowling duo Raelee Thompson and Sharon Tredrea and the modern champions like Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning and Sophie Molineux.

The women ‘s inaugural day-night Ashes Test at the MCG in January is an event to savour, and long-time Pavilion editor Ken Piesse has embraced the match, gathering a magnificent array of contributors paying homage to the best of the best over those first nine decades.

This beautifully presented publication also contains interviews by Liam McCullagh – the Society’s current journalism scholarship winner – long-time assistant editor Mark Browning and many others. First-time cricket author Michael Lefebvre reminds us of the genius of Karl Schneider, the lost prodigy, once selected ahead of Bradman, only to die young before playing even one Test. It is a compelling, emotional read.
