BETTY WILSON CELEBRATION DAY
1 Dec 21
Kooyong

Our ACS  new season launch coincided with buckets of rain outside but it didn’t dampen spirits as Gideon Haigh spoke of the summer ahead and launched his latest book, ‘Stroke of Genius’, an iconography of the one and only Victor Trumper.
Haigh said the cover photograph of Trumper jumping out to drive in 1905 is cricket’s most celebrated picture and Trumper the most universally loved player of all, against whom never one bad word was said.
Almost 60 ACS members and guests were present at the Kelvin Club for the event, life member Colin Barnes leading the charge in thanking most eloquently Haigh for his masterful talk.
Haigh later signed copies of Strike of Genius as well as many of his other 20 cricket books including biographies of Warwick Armstrong and Jack Iverson, which both won ACS Literary Awards.
The new chef at the Kelvin did a capital job and everyone left very satisfied — armed with umbrellas, as can happen in Melbourne in October.
