Dear ACS Playing Group

As part of the celebrations for Don Bradman’s birthday, we will be joined by ex-Test fast bowler the soldier-cricketer Tony Dell on Zoom tomorrow Friday, August 27 from 12 noon.

Tony was to be in Melbourne alongside the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency David Hurley to officially launch his book, AND BRING THE DARKNESS HOME.

Instead Tony will appear ‘live’ via Zoom, for which we are very grateful.

He said his time in Vietnam fighting had one silver lining: it made him angrier and he took out that anger on batsmen, triggering his promotion into the Test team, courtesy of Bradman, then Australia’s chairman of selectors.

For those of you who would like a signed copy of Tony’s book, just email kenpiesse@ozemail.com.au or call 0419 549 458

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

The details are as follows:

Ken Piesse and David Long (head of cricket) invite you to a scheduled Lunch-time Zoom meeting, as follows:

ACS Players-only Zoom Meeting
Aug 27, 2021 12 noon

Meeting ID: 872 0047 5121
Passcode: 516494

After hearing from Tony, our Head of Cricket David Long will lead a series of topics for discussion:

  • Our new confirmed home ground (turf)
  • Echuca and Alexandria 2022. Can you play one or both?
  • The likely 2021-22 program with us playing some stronger clubs in the New Year
  • Updates on our star injured trio Legs, and the two Robbos.

PLUS: How are you all? Is everyone ok? Are you coping alright? Let’s talk. This is the forum.

We have a new team’s co-ordinator in Marino Bovo. Big Sam is continuing to co-ordinate the Wandering XI teams, with an early game already scheduled in October against the MCC XXIXers at Phil O’Meara Oval – also known as Walter Galt Reserve, home of the Kingston Hawthorn Hawks.
