The Australian Cricket Society and Kalgin transport have sent a large container of cricket equipment and brand new shoes to Vanuatu to assist Cricket Vanuatu in its endeavours to foster the game amongst thousands of super-enthusiastic boys and girls. That’s the shipment below, with ACS president Ken Piesse.
Thanks to one of our member Phil O’Meara from Eagle Sports we have bought a supply of cross trainer shoes to help the development of local Vanuatan cricketers and have also assembled bags of quality new and pre-loved equipment from pads and bats through to portable scoreboards.
Peter Duffy from Classic Bat repairs (0405 507 449) or twitter @classicbats has been marvellously generous in assisting our publicity and gathering gear from his old Mentone Cricket Club contacts and friends. ACS committee member Dave McNamara has been doing the same at Caulfield Cricket Club, and we also had some gear from the lads at Traralgon . nWe sent come copies of Pavilion and also Our Don Bradman, ken Piesse’s best seller from 2008.
Right now Vanuatu are in the fourth division of the World Cricket League. But they have a strong cricket program coordinated by a true believer in ex-Sheffield Shield opener Shane Deitz.
We are honoured to be involved in helping lift the standard and caring for cricket on one of the great Pacific islands. We know our donation and efforts will be appreciated and hope that you may also have some items you could donate.
If members with good quality cricket equipment, clothing or cricket books, which are no longer required, please email kenpiesse@ozemail.com.au so we can arrange another collection… Any donations greatly appreciated.
