Reinforced by the Ivanhoe cavalry the ACS Wandering XI completed their second win of the season by a comfortable margin over the VCA Umpires at Walter Galt Oval , home of the Kingston Hawthorn Hawks
Batting first on a fine Premier standard wicket, the ACS made a slightly sticky start and were 3/38. But the middle order rallied and with runs from Jayden Clay and father-son Peter and Seadon Leggett were able to reach a competitive 176.
The Umpires were always struggling in their reply. Vince Delaney claimed an important early victim and with the Ivanhoe cavalry off-spin of Jayden and Seadon making inroads, wickets continued to tumble.
Man of the match Jayden confirmed his dominant influence on the game with two stunning direct hit run-outs including one from at least 30 metres away.
Special mention must also be made of Simon Pinder’s wicketkeeping.
Filling in with borrowed gear he took more bullets on the body for the team from Jayden and Seadon’s throws than a VC winner at the battle of the Somme.
The weather was excellent, the ground splendid, the hospitality exemplary and the game was played in superb spirit. Well done to all at Kingston Hawks for hosting us. Hunty for the wicket, Fab Phil for the work afterwards at the bar and Master for semi organising it all. — MB
