Having an involvement in the 2018 Indigenous tour of the UK reawakened Scott Boland’s dream of playing Test cricket for Australia.
Twelve players including Scott and his younger brother Nick, played a series of matches in England as part of the 150th birthday celebrations for the first Australian tour, in 1868.
“I’d love to to go back again in 2023, for the Ashes,’ said Scott, Australian cricket’s latest Ashes hero, famous for ending the 2021-22 Christmas Test in his hometown Melbourne early with an astonishing spell of six for 7 against the old enemy, England.
Scott, 32, was playing in his very first Test match.
Scott was the guest of honour at our 54th annual dinner at Kooyong.
A Parkdale boy, he hails from St John’s Vianney Primary school and has two young children, 3 and 1. He heads to Colombo next week with Australia’s senior red ball squad for two Test matches.
AMONG THE OTHER GUESTS were former Test captain Graham Yallop, Bob Cowper’s brother Dave and the old South Melbourne footballing hard-man Ken Boyd.
